Moved by the unprecedented event of a ‘global quarantine’ due to Coronavirus, The Merry Beggars seeks submissions of 10-minute radio plays responding to the theme "Quarantine."
As we enter into a strange monkish isolation, our humanity emerges in a new and vivid light. We encounter our families, perhaps for the first time. Old wounds - and old loves - resurface. We enter into an unplanned retreat - a deepened Lenten sacrifice. What new stories will this create? What farces? What heroes? Where has this been felt before in history? Does this prefigure our future? Where is God in all of this? Where are our families? Where are we?
Three finalists will be fully produced as radio plays and broadcast on partnering radio stations. The top finalist will receive a $300 prize. All genres, periods, and sensibilities are encouraged! All submissions are judged blind by top industry professionals. Submission deadline is May 4th, 2020.

Scripts do not have to be ‘about’ quarantine but simply ‘in response to’ the theme of ‘quarantine’ (i.e. wherever your imagination goes when you hear the word/idea of ‘quarantine’). Scripts do not have to be present-day or be about Coronavirus.
We are seeking scripts from all genres: comedy, farce, tragedy, satire, etc. Setting, time, and environment are left to your imagination. Scripts will be evaluated by the criteria of story (plot, structure, characters, dialogue, and concept) as well as by how they make use of the unique storytelling opportunities of an audio medium.
Scripts should be no longer than 10 to 15 pages.Your script should feature no more than 6 central characters (though additional minor characters with only a few lines are allowed).
