Tri Lateral Talks on Nagorno Karabakh Last Over 6 Hours- UPDATED

Definitely a marathon session as it is reported Armenia, Azerbijani and Russsian FM’s still talking

"MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. The Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers - Sergey Lavrov, Jeyhun Bayramov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan - have been holding talks over a recent escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh for more than six hours, a TASS correspondent reported on Friday.

The meeting started at 16.30 Moscow time, but it is still unclear how long it will last. Media representatives from three countries are waiting in the press center of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Reception House, glued to the screen in hope to see the ministers’ statement after the talks.

The Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers arrived in Moscow a few hours prior to the meeting. They had been invited for consultations on Nagorno-Karabakh by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Renewed clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, with intense battles raging in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The area experienced flare-ups of violence in the summer of 2014, in April 2016 and this past July. Azerbaijan and Armenia have imposed martial law and launched mobilization efforts. Both parties to the conflict have reported casualties, among them civilians.

My understanding is that Azerbaijan has reclaimed some of their territory. This is probably what brought Armenia to the negotiating table. It’s not likely that Azerbaijan will cede the territory in the negotiations. And really, why should they? (Of course I could be mistaken. I’m speculating based on who has the upper hand in the fight and whose territory this bit of ground  is internationally recognized to belong to) Hopefully France stays away. That would be a very good thing!

"The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Jeyhun Bayramov on Friday traveled to Moscow where talks to halt the fighting in Artsakh began mediated by their Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

“Foreign Minister of Armenia departed for Moscow, where the consultations of foreign ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia will be held. Agenda will focus exclusively on cessations of hostilities, humanitarian issues of exchanging bodies and prisoners of war,” said Armenia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan.

The talks reportedly lasted for more than six hours, however no press announcements have been issues by any of the parties involved. Nor has there been indication that the three leaders would resume discussions on Saturday. Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the two foreign minister to Moscow late Thursday. Mnatsakanyan was scheduled to visit on Moscow Monday."
