Create, Develop & Showcase

A program operating under the Braata Productions umbrella designed to create, develop, showcase, and expose the best of Caribbean theatrical offerings from the traditional stalwarts like Rhone and Walcott, to the new and aspiring young talent from the Diaspora waiting in the wings. The purpose of BTW is to give agency and space to the immigrant voice from the Caribbean celebrating its unsung thespians, writers, directors and technical personnel in all our efforts.

Main Stage

BTW stages full productions of works written by playwrights from the Caribbean and works about the Caribbean experience as uniquely felt by its migrant population.

We will have a staged reading bi-annually with the aim to bring that playwright's work to the consciousness of theatre goers in the NY Tri-State area. A feedback and discussion session will follow in order to facilitate the artist's next step in the development of his or her work. Braata's Reading series is designed to offer playwrights a chance to see and hear their work read out loud by professional actors. Each reading is directed, rehearsed and performed for an audience.

SUBMISSIONS

In our effort to assist writers Braata has outlined the following guidelines for those interested in being a part of our reading series:

1) Submit a complete script or draft to braatapoductions@gmail.com
2) The play should not have been produced in New York City before, (at least not the draft you’re presenting to us).
3) You should be willing to be an active part of the rehearsal process along with the director and cast to facilitate re writes, and or edits where necessary.
4) Your attendance at the reading is mandatory and so is your participation in a post reading talk back with the audience.
5) All submissions must include:
Name and bio of playwright (Max 150 words), play title and synopsis and list of characters.
