China’s Nuclear Power Plant Leak- Nuclear Drama May Be Less Alarming Than the Politics Behind It

Yesterday I’d seen an article related to this incident. It appears the entire narrative originated with CNN. Which immediately raised my suspicions. Knowing full well CNN is a documented source of disinfo.

There appears to be NO meat on the bones of this report. Nothing.

As of today, my assessment, for those interested, this latest reporting amounts to a perception managing disinfo tale planted in misleading media, intended to dupe the gullible masses. In other words it’s more of the usual.

Reuters

“CNN reported on Monday that the U.S. government had spent the past week assessing a report of a leak at the Taishan power plant in Guangdong province run by a joint venture between EDF and China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN)”

CNN reports. The US spent the week assessing a report of a leak. The US did not assess a leak.  Undoubtedly many believed that was the case!  Again, they assessed a report of an alleged leak. Surely this bit of gossip was breathlessly reported by CNN.

Let’s delve a bit deeper?

China:
State-run CGN, the majority owner of the joint venture, said operations at the plant met safety rules and the surrounding environment is safe.

"Regular monitoring data shows the Taishan station and its surrounding environment meet normal parameters," it said in a statement on its website late on Sunday.

Framatome said:
it was supporting efforts to resolve the situation. (Unsure what the situation is exactly)

"According to the data available, the plant is operating within the safety parameters", the company said in a statement,

The International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. atomic watchdog, said:

"At this stage, the agency has no indication that a radiological incident occurred,"
France's nuclear watchdog ASN had no immediate comment
The U.S. State Department and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission referred queries to the Energy Department and the White House did not respond immediately to questions from Reuters.

Straits Times changed it’s original published headline. However it is the one being used here because it’s definitely a more realistic and appropriate choice of wording. Which is undoubtedly why it was dropped.

China’s nuclear drama may be less alarming then the politics behind it

Prospective customers for China's technology are likely watching developments at Taishan, said Mr Mark Hibbs, a Germany-based non-resident senior fellow in the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Nuclear Policy Programme.

"While it may have no impact on the ground right now, for countries considering importing Chinese technology for nuclear power, this event may raise questions for them about how they would want to manage information disclosure," Mr Hibbs said.

It’s warfare. Without guns. It’s economic. It’s a battle for the mind. It’s intent is to undermine confidence in products produced in China that will make their way onto  the international market.

For the benefit of other parties.
