First Place Prize:
A fully produced production of your play or musical in a theater in Manhattan – New York City – The most sought for place to present a theater production in the entire world.
Second Place Prize: $1,000
Third Place Prize: $500
Additionally, 9 finalists will be selected.
Finally, no matter where you are from, you have a chance to apply to a competition that will not only read your play or musical script but will evaluate it. Seven members of the theater industry from New York City were hand selected specifically for the ITC. These panelists will read, evaluate, write a review, and judge each submission entered the competition. They will also be responsible for selecting the winners.
*All scripts will be accepted (including previously produced shows from all over the world.
**All scripts must be submitted in English.
First Prize...
The winning Script will receive a full production in New York City. It will run for three performances at the LATEA Theater in Manhattan. Yes, you read correctly; in Manhattan, which is the center of theater in New York City, as well as the greatest concentration of theatrical productions in the world.
The winning script’s production will be included as part of The New York Theater Festival, which is the largest and one of the most prestigious Theater Festivals in the US. Participation in the Festival gives contestants a chance to win cash prizes, (totaling $8,000) offered by the New York Theater Festival [NYTF] Competition.
Whether it’s a play or a musical, ITC will hire the cast and crew for the competition’s winner, organize and manage rehearsals for the production, and run the shows that will be presented at the LATEA Theater as part of The New York Theater Festival Competition. ITC will cover the cost of rehearsal spaces, the cost of filming one of the performances, and all other costs.
If the winner can’t attend the production’s run during the NYTF in New York, they will receive the filmed coverage of one of their performances.

How does it work?
7 forefront members of the theater industry in New York City were selected as panelists for the ITC; these panelists will read, evaluate, judge, and write a review of each submission in the competition, and be responsible for selecting the winners.
The First Place Winner’s work
Will receive a full production, which has the potential to be exposed to a number of producers who may be interested in a longer run of the production.
Second Prize receives $1,000.
Third Prize receives $500.
Additionally, 9 finalists will also be listed.

GUIDELINES TO SUBMIT YOUR SCRIPT
There is no limit to the number of scripts that each participant may submit.
- Plays must be submitted in PDF format only.
- All scripts must be submitted in English.
- Musicals must submit a PDF of the libretto and the music score. Furthermore, musicals must submit three sample songs (sample songs may be recorded using at least one instrument and one singer). Do not worry about a professional recording, (you can use a phone!); however, more professional recordings with multiple singers are encouraged. Since the judges will only need to hear samples of the songs, the quality of the recordings is not crucial.
- Each submission must be between 30 minutes and 90 minutes (no longer, no shorter!) The winning script produced by ITC will use a maximum of 6 actors/singers. If the number of characters required is more than 6, actors and/or singers will be required to play multiple roles.
- The musical score submitted must be able to be performed with a piano. Only a pianist hired by the ITC will be playing the score for the production – no additional musicians are permitted. We understand this may require you to make adaptations to your musical to comply with our submission rules.
- No elaborate costumes will be included in the production presented by ITC. If the setting of your scripts calls for elaborate costumes, adaptations must be made so that the members of the production will be dressed in contemporary outfits. This is often done successfully with period pieces.
Judges will provide all submissions with an evaluation of their work, a written review, and advice on how to proceed with their script. This feedback will be sent out within 3 months from the submission date.
The winners will be announced on December 28th, 2024
Once your submission is accepted you will receive:
- A full review of your script.
- An evaluation of your script.
- Advice on how to improve your script.
