As an aside, seeing as a few regular readers recently have asked, the library's marketing identity change occurred one year ago.

The main branch will be called The Floyd County Library — with "library" in large lettering — New Albany Central, while the county branch will say Galena Digital.

"We are a Floyd County library, we are all one. We serve the whole county and New Albany is part of that county. Legally we are not changing our name and our sign on the building is not changing. This is mainly a new marketing tool."

... Wednesday, June 19th is the annual Juneteenth celebration which commemorates the formal ending of slavery, which occurred on June 19, 1865, only three months after the end of the Civil War. Like many holidays celebrated in America, Juneteenth’s origins are muddled and the question of whether celebrations should actually occur on June 19th and not, perhaps, January 1st (the date which marks the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation which outlawed slavery in the Confederacy). The Floyd County Library, in an email detailing their Junetenth activities wrote that, “Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is the oldest known holiday commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States” ...
