Russia/Turkey Planning New Talks on Idlib- Joint Patrols Continue & US Driving Wedge Between Turkey & Russia

Moscow and Ankara are preparing a new series of consultations on the situation in Syria’s Idlib, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference on Monday.

"Another series of consultations is now being prepared and we hope it will help us reach an agreement on how to ensure that this really becomes a de-escalation zone and terrorists don’t boss around there," Lavrov said.

Russia’s top diplomat noted that the Turkish military in Idlib understands that the fighting in the de-escalation zone is against terrorists. "No one has ever agreed in the framework of the achieved deals between the Russian and Turkish presidents that retaliatory strikes won’t be delivered on terrorists should they try to act as they are doing now," Lavrov stressed.

Notable for the fact that the legitimate name is being used. And that Turkey and Russia are still conducting joint patrols

Syrian Observatory activists reported seeing a Turkey – Russia joint patrol of four Russian vehicles and four Turkish others touring villages in the western countryside of Ain Al-Arab (Kobani). The patrol started from Ashma village and toured the villages of Jarqili Fuqani, Qarran, Dikmash, Kharkhuri, Buban, Saftik, Al-Iza’a area, Susan, Qula, Qaraquy, Beyandar, Mashku and Jabna, before returning to Ashma again. Two Russian helicopters escorted the patrol during its tour.

On February 17, SOHR sources reported seeing Russian and Turkish forces running a new joint patrol in Ras Al-Ain and Abu Rasin countryside. Four Russian vehicles and four Turkish others started from Sherik crossing on the border with Turkey and toured the villages of Badlik, Malak, Zahr Al-Arab, Abbas, Ibrahimi, Fuqayrah, Hulwah and Arrad in the northern countryside of Abu Rasin and the eastern countryside of Ras Al-Ain, then they returned to Sherik again.
A Russian helicopter escorted the joint patrol flying at low altitude. It is the first joint patrol to be run by the Turkish and Russian forces since the start of tension between the two sides.
"The objective of the United States in Syria’s last rebel-held province of Idlib will cause a split between Turkey and Russia, Timur Göksel, former spokesman for the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, told Ahval’s Hot Pursuit podcast programme."
