(inter)Generations: A Playwriting Program
web siteDeadline: Monday April 19, 2021
Calling all creative writers! If you’ve always wondered what it might be like to write a play, this program is a wonderful place to begin.
High school students and older adults 50+ can apply here to take part in a free ten-session playwriting program this spring. Students will learn the basic building blocks of script writing, and be guided through an intergenerational interview process with their classmates. Each writer will then create a short play inspired by their partner’s life experiences. At the end of each session, readings of these plays will be performed by BETC actors for the public. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 19. (We’ll follow up with all applicants April 20.)
BETC’s playwriting education initiative is led by BETC teaching artists Heather Beasley and Josh Hartwell.
Class sessions will meet over Zoom:
Group A: Tuesdays: 3:30-5:30 p.m., April 27-June 22
Group B: Wednesdays: 4-6 p.m., April 28-June 23
Readings of the students’ plays-in-progress will be streamed LIVE, on YouTube Live, on the weekend of June 19-20, 2021.
(inter)Gen is made possible in part by a grant from the Next50 Initiative.
