SUBMISSION

Calling all playwrights to tell their stories that resonate with diverse communities. The Paterson Performing Arts Development Council is accepting entries as part of its annual Show Me The Monologue Playwriting Competition. The first place winning playwright whose work is chosen will receive a main stage theater production as part of the lineup in the Hamilton Arts Festival (HAF) 2022. As PPADC’s playwright in residence, the writer will receive developmental support that includes a $500 stipend, dramaturge, director, casting, stage manager, tech operators, and set design. Second-place winner will receive dramaturgy support and a stage reading of his/her/their work during HAF.

HAF events and activities will take place from June 16 - 25, 2022, enabling both arising and accomplished artists to present work that deepens their practice as well as entertains, enlightens, and engages Paterson’s diverse communities.

At the Paterson Performing Arts Development Council (PPADC), a 501C3 nonprofit organization, our mission is to bring together multicultural communities through performing arts and cultural events, to create pathways for aspiring and accomplished artists, and to promote the native land of the Leni Lenape people called the City of Paterson, NJ as a regional hub for the creative arts.
Awards & Prizes

-1st place winner receives $500 stipend plus workshop or main stage production

- 2nd place winner receives stage reading

Rules & Terms

Step 1: Upload a video file (under 4 minutes) with an original written monologue from the play or musical script that you are submitting.

Step 2: Attach a full script (no outlines) typed and doubled space of the play from which your monologue is taken. For musicals, also include an audio recording (at least 4 songs as they appear in the script). Full-Act Plays or Musicals must be 60 minutes to 90 minutes in length and must depict a unique cultural experience, heritage perspective, and/or social justice issue.

Plays submitted should not have had a full stage production, however, other readings or workshops are okay. We are reaching out to playwrights who have not had their work fully produced before or may not have the resources or means to have their work developed.
