The Playwrights First Best New Play Award for the 2023-2024 season will be announced on the Award Recipients page in Fall 2024.
Awardee and finalist playwrights will be notified by letter.

Overall, we look for:
- Imagination and originality in both style and subject or point of view.
- Characters that intrigue and move us.
- A compelling action which reveals the human condition.
- Theatricality inherent in the above.

$1,000 first place.
Award listing of playwright and play title on our website.
Professional reading in NYC when feasible.

- One, single full-length play per playwright in English from anywhere in the world.
- Not produced full-scale prior to submission. Readings, workshops, and college productions are acceptable.
- No joint authorships, adaptations, translations, musicals, or shorts.
Award:
$1,000 first place.
Award listing of playwright and play title on our website.
Professional reading in NYC when feasible.
