Deadline for CageMatch submissions sent via e-mail is.March 1, 2020;
post-mark deadline, if mailed, is February 24, 2020.

Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette, California, is accepting submissions for our second Annual Playwrights’ CageMatch. Our CageMatch is a chance for playwrights to show their stuff in an audience-decided live competition.

Five Playwrights enter but only one will emerge victorious. Grand prize for the chosen script.

We are seeking brief scenes (5-20 minutes) which conform to the limitations of the competition. THT staff and community will select the top five submissions. Each of the final scripts will get one rehearsal with the same director and company of actors which Town Hall provides.  On March 23, 2020, the five scenes will be performed at a live staged reading event at Town Hall Theatre. The audience will vote by token to determine the winner!

Our theme this year is: AMONG THE TREES.  The setting is a clearing among the trees, in a forest or woodland area, anywhere in the universe; there may be a doorway, portal or entranceway or two, and maybe even a window. Time period is not restricted. Please limit your scenes to no more than four characters. We are also seeking scripts demonstrating gender parity. A lovers’ encounter or post-apocalyptic tale, perhaps?  We’re looking for creative and elegant back-stories that incorporate the setting into the scenes. Tone, theme or genre is up to you!

Yes, you may submit more than one play.

 There is no restriction on plays that have been previously produced and/or published but they need to fit the theme and setting.

Playwrights will be notified by email whether they are chosen as one of the five performed playwrights.

Admission to the performance is $5 (free to our subscribers), and a token to vote for the winner is $5.

Submissions can be e-mailed in *.doc or *.pdf to cagematch@townhalltheatre.com or mailed to:

Town Hall Theatre, ATTN: Susan E. Evans, Artistic Director, 3535 School Street, Lafayette, CA  94549

PLEASE INCLUDE A MAILING ADDRESS  ON YOUR SUBMISSION.
